2013 Team Iowa Ice Zurich Staff
 Janelle Hester (Head Coach)
  • Hester an Iowa native was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. An all stater and conference player of the year at Davenport Central was an all-state selection and conference player of the year her senior season at Davenport Central… Hester Attended the University of Tennessee from 1999-2002.Hester earned 2 SEC all conference player honors. Hester earned the opportunity to train with the USA Volleyball National A2 program in Colorado Springs, Colo., this past July 2001. Only 12 athletes from around the country were selected to participate with the program
  • Hester served as graduate assistant St. Ambrose University for three seasons then spent one year playing professional volleyball in Europe for NOVA KBM Branik in Maribor, Slovenia. Janelle was Head Coach of Augustana College in Rock Illinois from 2007-2009 coaching 4 CCIW all conference players. Hester has extensive club coaching experience. Janelle serves as the head coach from QC Elite Volleyball Club in Davenport, Iowa. Hester also coached for 14U Nfinity Extreme team out of Eldridge, Iowa. Janelle Hester played for Iowa Ice in 2012 and became the 2nd assistance for Ice the 2013 season.
 Danielle Zimmerman (Assistant Coach)
  • In her first season with team Iowa Ice. Danielle has played for Team Ice previously and is now serving as Assistant Coach. Danielle has held various coaching positions since the completion of her collegiate playing career. Most recently Danielle was the Head Coach of a High School in Iowa. Prior to that, she spent 2 years as the Assistant Coach at Concordia University, Nebraska. She also has coached club volleyball for the past 5 years. 
  • As a player, Schmidt lettered for four years as a middle blocker at Minnesota State University. She helped lead the Mavericks to two NCAA Division II National Tournaments and was named to the conference All-Academic Team in 2007 and 2008. She was also named conference Defensive player of the week in 2007. Danielle had over 300 blocks in her career and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors twice during her time at Minnesota State. In May 2009 she competed in Argentina with her MSU teammates. 
  • Danielle now resides in Ankeny, IA with her husband and 1 year old son.

 Laurel Abrahamson (#18)
  • Played at University of San Diego
  • attended the University of San Diego on a full-ride scholarship as a middle hitter from 2004-2008.
  • Laurel helped the team win three West Coast Conference championships along with four NCAA tournament appearances, including a visit to Louisville for the sweet 16.
  • She was named MVP and Athlete of the Year in 2007
  • First Team All Conference and All WCC in 2006 & 2007.
  • Laurel led the team with the highest hitting percentage and total blocks in 2006 & 2007. At USD Laurel received her BA in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. After college, she continued to play professionally in Finland, Spain and Portugal.

  • Career finish 12th highest in MVC history for career kills and 5th highest in MVC history in career attempts
  • Led team to Drake’s first winning season since 1996 during junior season and the best start in Drake program history at 14-0 senior year
  • Top MVC freshman in kills per game (4.45) and points per game (5.01)

 Devon Jensen (#9)
  • Played at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA
  • MCC Player of the Year The Midwest Collegiate Conference  For the third straight season Grand View junior outside hitterDevon Jensen (Underwood, Iowa) was named MCC Player of the Year.
  • Jensen once again repeated as the MCC leader in kills with 713 kills (4.60 kills/game).
  • She leads the NAIA in total kills and ranks second nationally in kills per game.
  • She also was second on her team and with 568 digs and eighth in the MCC averaging 3.40 digs per game and added 92 blocks.
  • Jensen led the Vikings to the MCC regular season and tournament championships and a trip to the NAIA Volleyball National Championships.

 Carly Jenson (#1)
  • from Omaha, Nebraska and attended Millard North HS.  Her high school team advanced to the state tournament her final three years.  Played in the Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Match, was first team all-state and first team all-metro

  • College awards: AVCA Second Team All-America, First team All-Big 12, AVCA All-Region, NCAA Minnesota All-Region Tournament Team, Top Performer, Academic All-Big 12 first team, Iowa State Challenge All-Tournament Team, and Northern Illionois Invitation All-Tournament Team.

 Justine Landi (#2)
  • Played at Louisville
  • First Team All-BIG EAST and All-BIG EAST Tournament as well as AVCA
  • First Team All-Region and Honorable Mention AVCA All-American Honors.
  • two-time BIG EAST Honor Roll selection and earned All-Adidas Indiana Classic honors.
  • She was in double digit kills in 22 of 30 matches with a season high of 22 against DePaul.
  • She had 20 against Wake Forest and Indiana. As a setter in the 6-2, she had a season-high 33 assists against Purdue. She had 27 aces

 Caitlin Mahoney (#7)
  • From Omaha, Nebraska and attended Marian HS
  • While in high school, captured the Class A record for aces in a match, season, and career.
  • Played club volleyball for Nebraska Elite.
  • Played at Iowa State University.  While there, the team made it to the Elite Eight and beat Nebraska for the first time in school history, and her senior year received an overall 4th ranking in the NCAA tournament. 
  • College awards: Academic All-Big 12 first team in 2011, and Academic All-Big 12 second team in 2010.

 Megan Schipper (#15)
  • From Aplington, IA and attended Aplington-Parkersburg HS.
  • Played at the University of Iowa from 2006-2010.  Graduated with a BA in Health Promotion.
  • Graduate assistant Coach at University of Northern Iowa from 2010-2012, and will graduate with a Masters in Kinesiology in 2012.
  • Currently resides in Cedar Falls, IA

 Natalie Mullikin-Smith (#4) 
  • Named first team All-ACC ...
  • Selected to the All-ACC Academic team for the third straight season ...
  • Earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors ...
  • Named to the Dean's List and earned the team's Academic Award
  • Finished in the top five on Wake Forest's single-season lists for block assists (108), block solos (35), total blocks (143), blocks per set (1.27) as well as kills per set (3.94)

 Justine Young (#17) 
  • Played at Kennesaw State
  • Ranked as top junior college middle blocker at Division II level.
  • 2010: At Texas Tech, named the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year by the conference coaches
  • Fourth overall in total blocks with 49.
  • season-high .429 hitting percentage in the match, the second-highest percentage for a Tech player in a single match this season
