Iowa High Performance Boys program is open to boys that are members of the Iowa Region, or that live or go to school in Iowa.

2013 Iowa HP Boys Travel Teams

The Iowa Region will be sending two boys teams to the Asics Junior National Championships in Chicago.

• Team ages will be 14u and 17u
• Players 14u and younger may all compete for a spot on the 14u team
• Players 15u through 17u compete for a spot on the 17u team.  In addition, a player who is in the 18u category but is in 11th grade during the 2012/13 school season may be on the 17u team.

To earn a spot on an Iowa Boys HP travel team, players should:

1. Attend one of three HP tryouts
2. Attend the Iowa HP Camp in June
3. Compete at Navy Pier in Chicago!

Open Tryouts

Boys wanting a spot on a travel team should attend one of four Boys HP tryouts:

Sunday, April 7
CR Kennedy HS in Cedar Rapids
4-5pm
This will be a "mini" tryout following the boys volleyball tournament at Kennedy on April 7.

6-8 boys will be chosen for each travel team from tryouts.  We will reserve 1-3 spots on each team that will be assigned at the HP Camp, so if you don't make the first cut, you have another opporutnity to make the travel team by attending HP Camp!

What to do if you plan to tryout:

• Email Colleen ([email protected]) and let her know what tryout you plan to attend.
• Make sure you have a USAV Membership* 
• Fill out and bring a Medical Release Form 

Iowa HP Camp

Date: June 8-10
Site: William Penn University , Oskaloosa, IA
Cost: $150 

All boys on travel teams are required to attend the Iowa HP Camp.  This will be a combined camp with all boys players, with a session each day for the travel teams to practice together.  These three days are the only time the travel teams will practice together prior to competition!  

Asics Jr. National Championships

Date: June 16-18
(Scrimmage on June 16, Competition June 17-18)
Site: Navy Pier, Chicago

• Iowa Boys HP will enter a 14u team and a 17u team.
• The Iowa Region will pay all entry fees, provide coaches and pay all costs for coaches, and provide uniforms (players return jersey and shorts, but get to keep a long sleeve warm-up shirt and a backpack)
• Players are responsible for their own lodging, travel, and food.

Tournament Information

Advance Spectator ticket order form for Asics Nat'l Championships: Spectators can order tickets in advance for a slightly lower price.  To get this price, you must order 12 or more tickets, and orders must be placed by May 15.

Tournament Information including tournament manual and some hotel leads can be found on the Midwest Jr Volleyball website.

• Iowa Region coaches and staff will be staying at the Red Roof Inn Chicago downtown.  Players can stay in the same hotel, but are also free to stay at any other hotel, or stay with family or friends.  Remember that parking downtown and in the Navy Pier area is limited and expensive, so if you plan to drive to the playing site, get there early or plan to drop off the player prior to parking.

2013 Iowa HP Boys Camp

Dates: June 8-10
Site: William Penn University, Oskaloosa, IA
Cost: $150 (includes food, lodging, and a shirt)

 Boys of all ages and levels are invited to attend the Iowa HP Boys Camp!  

• At camp, boys will be split 14u and younger, and 15u-18u.  Boys who are 14u or 15u may be moved up or down according to the camp coach's discretion.
• Camp will be led by a USA Volleyball coach, alon with college and club coaches from Iowa.
• You do not need to be on a travel team to attend!  This is a great opportunity to learn volleyball skills, play with other guys, and get some court time.
• 1-3 players from each age group may be selected for travel teams during HP Camp.
• Sign up by June 1, 2013

*USAV Membership

 USAV Membership is required for all tryout and camp attendees, and travel team members for insurance purposes.  If you played on a club team or took part in Iowa Region events during the club season, your membership is good for Iowa HP tryouts, camp, and travel.  A $5 tryout membership is available for those without a current membership.  Camp attendees who do not have a current membership may sign up for a $15 Iowa Region summer membership.  Players on a travel team must have a full $30 membership

2013 Iowa HP Boys Travel teams

• If you are on the travel team list, please accept or decline your spot by Monday, May 13, by emailing Colleen ([email protected])
• If you did not make the initial travel team list, don’t give up because there are spots remaining open on each team!  These spots will be filled based upon assessment of the players at the High Performance Camp. No one is guaranteed a starting position. Performance at camp will help us to mold the team.
• If you have not already done so, send in your High Performance Camp application and medical release, along with your camp fee.  This is due by June 1, 2013.  Remember that you are invited to camp, whether you are listed on the travel team list or not…and there are still a few spots available on the travel team!
